After only seven months on the job, the Florida Swimming Pool Association’s executive director, Nicholas Pasyanos, has resigned.
FSPA President Scott Egglefield said the resignation was effective May 31 and that Pasyanos left for “personal reasons.”
“We are sorry to see him leave so soon,” Egglefield said. “He has built great momentum for the association over the past few months in the areas of government relations and communications.”
Pasyanos accepted the job in October 2005, taking the helm from John Schwartz, who retired to spend more time with his family. Pasyanos had come to FSPA from the Custom Electronic Design Association, where he was senior director of government and public affairs.
Steve Bludsworth, who chaired the search committee that discovered Pasyanos, said that while the resignation didn’t necessarily come out of the blue, FSPA will need time to figure its next step.
“This just happened, so we don’t know where it’s all going,” he said. “We haven’t really talked about [a new search].”
Bludsworth said FSPA might form another hiring committee, which seems to the direction it’s heading. Or it could employ a headhunter to help fill the position.
“Those are the two possibilities, I guess. But it’s all a lot of work,” he added. “Being on the search committee was the most work I have ever done for the organization.”
Bludsworth called the resignation a “disappointment,” adding that he concurred with Egglefield that Pasyanos had been leading FSPA in the right direction.
“He had a lot of great ideas,” Bludsworth said. “We liked his thought process and the direction that he wanted to take the organization. He just wasn’t there long enough to implement any of them.”
Egglefield and members of the executive committee will oversee office operations while a replacement is being sought.
