This particular pool had some unusual features. The raised perimeter overflow was chosen for both aesthetics and practicality. Although strict edge tolerance and engineered plumbing allow the edge to operate with a Jandy variable-drive pump set at 1,200 rpm, we plumbed in a second pump to increase the edge flow at certain times of the year. The amount of foliage hanging directly over the pool contributed to a massive leaf load in the fall and blossoms in the spring. With the secondary pump engaged, the leaves could migrate to the edge for easy removal, and very little debris ended up on the pool floor. We opted not to install an in-floor cleaning system purely for aesthetics. Our company services the pool and waterfeature on a weekly basis. One side of the pool was left as a standard coping profile due to the close proximity to the lot line and softscape barrier. We did not want the saltwater surge from the pool affecting the plantings. The still water that results from a perimeter overflow pool is particularly striking at dusk and in the evening. The reflective qualities are incredible. All of the pool decks, walls, coping and interior tile work are constructed using travertine imported from Turkey.
