Louisiana utility companies are rolling out new programs to incentivize consumers to choose energy-efficient appliances, including pool pumps.

Entergy Louisiana and Entergy Gulf States, which provide electric service to more than one million customers, will offer a $200 rebate on variable-speed pumps. Pumps installed after Nov. 1, 2014 are eligible. “We expect to have the necessary application forms available for pool pump rebates in mid-February,” an Entergy spokesperson said.

Likewise, Pineville-based Cleco, which serves approximately 284,000 customers in the state, and Southwestern Electric Power Co., a power provider to more than 220,000 residents in Shreveport and Natchitoches, are both offering $250 rebates on VSPs. Restrictions may apply. Installers are advised to check with their local service provider for details.

These programs join Entergy New Orleans, serving 169,000 in Orleans Parish, which has been providing $400 pool pump rebates since 2011. The new incentives are part of a statewide initiative approved last year by the Louisiana Public Service Commission. The program kicked off in November for a three-year test run.
