Marjorie Peterson, founder of Mama Pete’s Nursery School, died June 9. She was 96. Mama Pete, as she was known by all, devoted 68 years to child care, and an important part of the curriculum was swim lessons for all of the 2- to 5-year-olds attending her Sierra Madre, Calif., school. The facility was located behind her home, and the pool was built by her husband. Her efforts to impart life-saving water skills to young children were chronicled in Pool & Spa News, 11/6/2006.
