The Pool, Spa & Aquatics Alliance has hired a new executive director.
The organization was formed last September, when the National Swimming Pool Foundation integrated the California Pool and Spa Association into its structure. This enabled the NSPF to create a membership association.
The Alliance hired its first ED, Eileen Benjamin, last March. But she has had to step down, citing unexpected health issues.
“Eileen gave us a boost of energy and ideas for growth in her short tenure,” said Jerry Wallace, Chairman of the Board for The Alliance/CPSA, in a press release. “Thanks to her investment and the engagement of our members, our future is bright.”
In her place, David Atencio will begin with The Alliance later this week. He brings more than 20 years of experience in the fitness and aquatics industry, during which he helped lead growth for 24 Hour Fitness. He most recently served as chief operating officer of Houston, Texas-based Athlete Training and Health.
“Atencio’s knowledge of multi-site and multi-facility operations, as well as his expertise in organizational vision casting and business operations management further ensure his ability to serve the interests of The Alliance membership,” the organization said in the release.
During the transition, Atencio will communicate with Benjamin from his office in Katy, Texas.
“I am thrilled to see the value The Alliance is bringing to the pool, spa and aquatics industry,” Benjamin said in the press release. “I will be cheering from the sidelines as it continues taking shape and will remain wholeheartedly connected and supportive.”
