I know Atlas 46 doesn’t want me to start a post about it by mentioning Carhartt, but Carhartt had the gall to stop making what I considered the best work pants ever. They were basically cotton duck brown pants with a sacrificial Cordura cap that went from thigh to ankle on the front. The pants in this pergola video are about 10 years old. They haven’t seen every day site use, but they haven’t been in a drawer either.

They don’t have 10,000 pockets. There aren’t clips and hangers and 14 slots for pens. The fabric is sublimely broken in. They’re simple and they work.

And they no longer exist.

So I was pumped to see that Atlas 46—we write about its cool-looking tool roll here—has a take on the Cordura-front pants. Since I carry only a few things with me, 13 pockets seems like a lot. But the one on the leg—it says you can fit your phone and wallet in there, hence the phone-and-wallet removal dance before getting in the truck is avoided—looks useful.

The leap is the kneepad keeper system. As in, this one looks like it works. At $155, I feel that in the wallet, side pocket or not, but if they keep my kneepads on my knees for the next basement or bathroom reno, that’s cool.
