Centuries ago, the Chinese mastered the art of visual and energy balance (ying and yang) and it is the basis of many of our water garden designs today. The presence of stone in a garden is the structure or skeleton (yang), and ties the work to the ground as well as creating focal points. Meanwhile, water (ying) is the lifeblood of the world, bringing softness to the garden and acing as a rejuvenating force (qi) that creates balance and calm. This hillside is where the final stream, 12-foot-tall waterfall and grotto ultimately were built.
