Welcome to our Expo issue!
If you’re at all familiar with our publication, you’ll know that we have a longstanding tradition of profiling a few of the many fascinating industry people in this issue. It’s a wonderful way to meet someone new or learn something new about the industry’s mover and shakers.
This year’s theme, “Industry Influencers,” is an interesting one, particularly because four of the seven people are new to the residential pool industry. Despite that, all have, or will have, an incalculable impact on the direction of this industry. Of particular note are:
• Sabeena Hickman, the new president/CEO of the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance
• Richard Falk, the lead author of the recently released paper on CYA ratios from the CMAHC Cyanurate Ad Hoc Committee
• Franceen Gonzales, chairman-elect of PHTA, who hails from the waterparks industry
• Kevin Powell, the new head of United Aqua Group, and a veteran of the electrical-equipment distribution industry
You’ll also see a few familiar names and faces:
• Bill Drakeley, co-founder of the new Watershape University
• David Hawes, president of the Independent Pool and Spa Service Association
• Mallory Bjekich-Wachowski, current chairman of PHTA Retail Council
Despite coming from diverse backgrounds, their shared zeal for moving the pool and spa industry forward will no doubt have an effect for years to come.
