About
Lew Akins got his start in the pool industry in the 1970s in San Diego. In 1984, while working in Texas, his employer at the time, Neptune Pools, went out of business leaving many Austin-area homeowners with unfinished pools. Akins seized the opportunity, founded Ocean Quest Pools, and completed all those Neptune pools.
During the next fifteen years, his firm built and perfected the vanishing edge concept and the “natural pool“ concept, according to its website and between 1987 and 1998, it won more than 100 industry awards.
In 1998 he sold the Austin business to his designer and salesperson, founded Ocean Quest Pools by Lew Akins and began consulting others on how to build award-winning pools. That same year, Akins received the first ever National Spa & Pool Institute (NSPI) Hall of Fame Award.
Under his leadership, Ocean Quest Pools by Lew Akins has gone on to construct nearly 1,000 swimming pools and has garnered more than 200 awards.
