Maryland Governor Larry Hogan signed into law a new pool/spa code.

House Bill 303 requires the state to adopt the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) as the new minimum standard, effective Dec. 31, 2023, for the construction of pools and spas.

The Maryland Department of Labor must adopt the ISPSC as a baseline code, which local jurisdictions will enforce and amend as necessary. According to Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA), the ISPSC correlates with local laws and regulations that are already established.

The ISPSC is a collaborative model code written by the PHTA and the International Code Council. It has been adopted in more than 30 states so far.
