Two trade shows saw successful runs last month. First, the Texas Pool & Spa Expo, which was held at the Fort Worth (Texas) Convention Center Jan. 14-17, drew positive reviews, particularly in its educational offerings. Genesis 3 Design Group, a show sponsor, saw strong attendance for its curriculum on hydraulic engineering and construction.

A week later, the Mid-America Pool & Spa Show was a major success story, with a 26 percent increase in attendance over last year.

“I’m enthused the industry isn’t just dying — guys are coming out, wanting to take classes and do better,” said Guy Larsen, show president. “To be honest with you, I was a bit surprised about how good our attendance was.”

The event, which took place at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Ill., featured an expanded educational agenda, as well as a leadership luncheon with guest speaker Manuel J. Perez de la Mesa, CEO/president of PoolCorp in Covington, La.
