Small Business Hits a Low
After an uptick in April, the Small-Business Optimism Index fell again in May, hitting a nearly three-decade low. The latest reading of 89.3 is the lowest since 1980. However, NFIB Chief Economist William Dunkelberg said things could be worse. “The current low readings have not been accompanied by declines in real spending and hiring, as was the case in past recessions,” he noted.
