PHTA has awarded its 2023 Dr. R. Neil Lowry Grant, which recognizes public health officials and departments for contributions to advance the public’s health and safe use of recreational water.
This year’s grant went to Craven County Environmental Health in New Bern, N.C. The $5,000 will be used to train two environmental health staff as Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO) instructors to train staff throughout the county, as well as to offer swimming safety programs to all pre-K through 8th grade classes.
"As their community expands, so does their commitment to serving that community through pool safety training for its public pool operators,” said John Weber, Vice Chair of PHTA's Recreational Water and Air Quality Committee and Senior Formulations Chemist at BioLab, Inc. “Craven County Environmental Health upholds the strong beliefs of Dr. R. Neil Lowry, that education and safety are of utmost importance to protect the health and lives of their community.”
