The charts featured here show the number of pool permits issued year-to-year in key counties throughout the Sunbelt, from 2009 through the first half of 2012. The information is provided by Hanley Wood Market Intelligence, an independent real estate research and analytical firm owned by the parent company of Pool & Spa News.

California

Pool construction remains stagnant in California, in which three of the four highlighted counties showed less activity in 2011 than in 2009.

Nevada & New Mexico

Clark County is home to Las Vegas while Bernalillo County contains the city of Albuquerque. Bernalillo seems on track to handily beat last year, but Clark County remains soft.

Florida

These four Florida counties showed the most activity in the state. Hillsborough County houses Tampa; Lee County contains Fort Myers and Cape Coral. All but Miami-Dade showed gradual improvement year to year. Unless activity picks up in Q3 and 4, permit counts may go down for 2012 in some of these counties.

Texas

Bexar County is home to San Antonio; Harris County contains Houston; Tarrant County has Fort Worth. Three of four counties showed at least slight growth each year. But 2012 activity so far may be too low to sustain the previous rate of growth. Dallas stayed about the same from 2010 to 2011 and seems on track this year.
