The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals has hired another staff member dedicated to promoting the group’s standards to governments across the country.

Susan Hilaski now serves as the organization’s director of standards promotion and adoption. She previously worked for the Petroleum Convenience Alliance for Technology Standards as its director of marketing and standards adoption.

“We are happy to have Susan’s knowledge and experience at APSP,” said Carvin DiGiovanni, senior director of technical and standards. “Her technical background and experience in standards adoption will be key in promoting the adoption of APSP’s ANSI-certified standards and the ISPSC.”

She will focus on advocating state and local governments for adoption of the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, written by APSP and the International Code Council, as well as APSP’s technical standards. This includes working with members facing code-adoption issues in their locales.

“[We want] a clear set of regulations and standards across the country that is appropriate for our industry,” said APSP President Rich Gottwald. “We have developed a lot of standards, and we want to make sure that those are the standards that are incorporated into codes that local municipalities use.”

Hilaski also has experience as a private consultant and has worked with Fortune 500 companies, trade associations, and federal and state agencies.
