IPSSA’s legal counsel issued a cease-and-desist order against a pool service technician who was posing as a member of the organization.
According to IPSSA, a person who falsely presented himself as a member was underbidding an actual member of the trade group’s Monterey, Calif. chapter. The chapter investigated the matter and determined that the person never belonged to the group. The imposter was apparently using the organization’s trademarked logo on his business card.
IPSSA legal counsel, Mark Alcorn, notified the person, threatening legal action within 20 days if he did not stop falsely advertising his services.
Unauthorized use of IPSSA’s logo and presenting oneself as belonging to the group is considered trademark infringement.
