Governor Rick DeSantis has signed into law a bill that broadens the qualifications for pool/spa subcontractors to work in the Sunshine State.

The bill passed in a third attempt by the Florida Swimming Pool Association to remove the licensing requirement for pool/spa subcontractors, as required in Section 49 of the Florida Statutes.

Now, the work of the subcontractor or independent contractor can fall under the license of the hiring contractor.

FSPA officials expect the change to help alleviate labor shortages.

Industry representatives argued that the current licensing requirements for subcontractors are nearly as difficult as those for the pool/spa contractors who hire them.

This was the third attempt to pass such a bill. It takes effect July 1.
