The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is accepting comments regarding the deadline for newly required commercial-drain retrofits.
In September, the agency narrowed the definition of an unblockable drain so that both the cover and sump must measure more than 18-by-23-inches and meet certain flow criteria.
Any drain that features a large, unblockable-sized cover but has a smaller sump is considered blockable and, if it’s a single outlet, must be addressed.
CPSC set a retrofit deadline of May 28, 2012, but professionals can provide input on that date’s feasibility. Comments must be submitted by Dec. 12, 2011.
