Naturally Beautiful
The family had always dreamed of a owning a pond, but wanted it to look very organic. Their wish was granted. Though the lot is just one-quarter acre, designer James Schevers created a naturalistic waterfeature rich with texture, colors and sounds. A meandering stream interspersed with three waterfalls leads to this 2-foot-deep koi pond, measuring 11-by-16-feet.
The co-owner of Sierra Pacific Design paid close attention to the falls’ placement and sound. He oriented them toward the house to pull the viewer into the “outdoor room,” but also angled each fall differently to create distinct dropping water sounds.
As Nature Intended
The lush landscaping includes creeping purple geraniums, which soften the Malibu boulders and river rock. Water lily and aquatic grasses provide excitement for the eye by adding a variety of shapes and textures.
While this project is typical of the custom waterscapes that Schevers’ team can construct, he says of the Marina del Rey project, “I particularly like the different textures of the plants and how we tied it all in and added color.”
