In a few short months, Pool & Spa News will be revealing the 2015 Masters of Design winners. In celebration of this prestigious annual award, we're taking a look back at previous winners.
Over the next several weeks leading up to the highly anticipated announcement, the editors will be sharing their all-time favorite Masters of Design projects. Up first is the MOD Staff Pick from design and construction editor, Rebecca Robledo.
Project: Intricate Oasis, 2014, Concrete
Rick Chafey, Brett Blauvelt, Brian Weiler, Ben Haught
Red Rock Pools & Spas
Mesa, Ariz.
What stands out most to Robledo is the blending of style and lines, detailing and seamless flow of the installation.
"This project is so stunning because it melds seemingly contradictory materials and lines to blend with the 'rustic contemporary' home," she said. "Like the living structures, the pool features the pairing of straight and soft, radiused lines, as well as warm- and cool-toned materials."
Also of note is the oversized spa with cantilever fire pits, as well as the spray pad-wading pool-sun shelf feature.
But it's the little things that really get Robledo excited about this particular Masters of Design project, such as the spa corners made of a stratified concrete, and the 1-inch-deep runnels connecting various elements.
"The gorgeous glass tile installed by Greg Andrews Tile, Alpinetile, and Rock Solid Tile takes it over the top – but in the best way," she adds.
