Blending in
Every form and surface in this project, from the fire pit to the waterfall diving platform, seamlessly integrates the same materials and design elements as the pool. Because he wanted the project to blend with the surrounding landscape, David Hobaica selected stamped concrete and cultured stone to bring a rustic feel.
“The coping and the decking is all one pour,” he says. “That’s all stamped concrete. The walls’ surface is cultured stone, which is also a concrete product.” Thanks to concrete’s versatility, Hobaica’s team was able to use the same wall forms and surfaces throughout every area of the project, providing a unified look.
Ringside seats
For this project, Hobaica used a process he devised. Instead of ordering a custom vinyl liner to fit over the stools, the team installed a standard liner, then attached the stools on top of it.
“I haven’t seen it done this way by anybody else,” Hobaica says. Situated next to the spa, the stools allow swimmers to use one wall as a countertop. “When you’re sitting on one of the stools,” Hobaica says, “you can rest your elbows on the bar. And if you’re in the hot tub, you can carry on a conversation with somebody sitting at the bar top.”
