CROSSING ARCS: For many fiberglass pools, as much thought is put into the design of the spa and surrounding area as into planning the pool itself. This project, by Todd Emmerson of Signature Pools in Geneva, Ill., includes multiple laminar waterfeatures and elaborate stone work.

FLOWING DESIGN: To meet the homeowner’s demands, Emmerson trimmed down the sides of a compact pool and merged it with two tanning ledges. A shallower ledge on one side provides a wading area for the family’s three children. A second, crescent-shaped ledge was attached on the other side of the pool and cut along its front face to create a spillover waterfall into the pool.

GRAND FINALE: To ensure structual stability for his unique design; Emmerson added more than 20 concrete pillars around the shells. The outside perimeter of the finished pool was framed with black granite and 1-inch glass tile.
