A common concern among techs is setting off the SVRS while vacuuming. By plugging a vacuum into the skimmer, a tech can cause the vacuum level to increase and the SVRS to trip.
“Vacuuming [from the skimmer] will definitely set it off, so what you have to do is put it in ‘unprotected’ mode,” says Russ Burke, district sales manager for Hayward Pool Products in Pomona, Calif.
This mode allows techs to clean the pool without tripping the SVRS. However, note that there is a short time limit associated with this feature, and techs may have to reset the unit more than once during cleaning.
Similarly, plugging in suction side cleaners and filter backwashing also can cause the unit to trip. Either use the bypass mode or shut the pump off during this kind of maintenance.
