The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency named Pentair Aquatic Systems a 2014 Energy Star Partner of the Year. The designation was given for the company’s work developing energy-efficient products, particularly its variable-speed pumps, and educating on the issue of energy efficiency. The Sanford, N.C.-based manufacturer has been an Energy Star partner since 2013 and played a key role in working with the EPA to gain an Energy Star designation for certain pool and spa pumps and developing the testing methods by which products can attain the seal. Pentair was one of a handful of manufacturers, across all product categories, to receive the designation. “It was a very elite group to be a part of, especially on the inaugural year of pool pumps obtaining the certification,” said Jeff Farlow, Pentair’s program manager of energy initiatives. According to the EPA, Pentair produces 50 percent of the pool and spa pumps bearing the Energy Star logo.
