NESPA Awards H.J. “Duke” Ellington scholarships

The Northeast Spa & Pool Association has named this year’s recipients of the H.J. “Duke” Ellington Memorial Scholarships.

Karlie Dehn of Glenwood, N.J., was given $3,000; Anthony Torchia of Ossining, N.Y., received $2,000.

The scholarships are given to students living in the NESPA territory (Connecticut, New Jersey and parts of New York and Pennsylvania) who demonstrate a commitment to community service. Good deeds are the primary consideration, but NESPA also looks at academics and financial need.

“It truly is heartwarming to see how these students and, in particular, this year’s awardees have made a strong commitment to community service while still balancing a demanding academic schedule,” said Sandy Nadler, chairperson of the Scholarship Committee and a customer service representative at Bel-Aqua Pool Supply in New Rochelle, N.Y.
