Just over two hours before the show floor was supposed to open, it was announced that the City of Long Beach, Calif., mandated a shut-down of all events in the city due to COVID-19 virus concerns. Because of this, this year's Western Pool & Spa Show has been canceled.

Organizers said on the Western Show's website: "The City of Long Beach Health and Safety Department has issued a mandate to cancel all events. Effective immediately The 2020 show is cancelled. We appreciate your understanding."

Leading up to the cancelation, the WPSS website said the should would proceed and that seminars were in progress this morning.

Regarding the closure, organizers said in an email communication: "WPSS had every intention to proceed with the event. Due to the city mandates, we are now unable to."

By all accounts, seminars had already been taking place when it was announced over the PA system.

Officials have announced some information regarding registered attendees and exhibitors. Attendees who prepaid for a seminar pass will be automatically registered for next year's show. Exhibitors will be contacted regarding next year's event, scheduled for April 22-24, 2021.

They also addressed items that had been donated for the end-of-event raffle and truck giveway. Social media giveaways will take place in lieu of the signature show-floor raffle. More informatoin will be provided through WPSS's social media accounts.

"We recognize the effect this has on our attendees, exhibitors and volunteers," organizers further said. "However, your health and well-being are our top priority. We appreciate your understanding."
