A new manufacturer to the Pool and Spa market has reached a major milestone.

In just one year since entering the industry, Spec Chem now is providing its products to more than 250 dealers nationwide.

This exceeds the one-year goal the Kent, Wash.-based firm set for itself.

Founded in 2013 by several industry veterans with a combined 35 years of industry experience, the firm was established as an answer to the recent decline in profitability surrounding the product category.

In an effort to return the money to the pockets of store owners, the maker of specialty chemicals sells its products directly to brick and mortar stores only. This will save the retail stores up to 50 percent on their basic chemical costs, such as phosphate remover, clarifier and other high sales volume items, said the firm’s president Nick Scappin, in a press release.

Instead of selling to distributors, the program is tailored to dealers and service professionals who can once again make money on chemicals, added George Goodman, Northeast and Midwest sales manager.

“We don’t want brick and mortar pool and spa retailers to become obsolete.,” he said. “They are the backbone of our industry.”
