A fire struck a Jacuzzi production plant in Tijuana, Baja, Mexico.
On the afternoon of Aug. 11, the back portion of the factory caught fire. The local press reported that it took 40 firemen to put out the blaze, which caused a seemingly solid black cloud of smoke to envelop part of the street, the media reported. It said machinery was necessary to remove collapsed walls.
The fire’s cause is still being investigated, said Ed Sofia, senior vice president of marketing for the hot tub manufacturer, which is headquartered in Chino Hills, Calif.
At the time of the fire, three employees were in the building conducting routine maintenance and escaped uninjured. “Thankfully, no injuries were reported on-site,” Sofia said.
The company, which also owns three plants in other locations, is working to minimize disruptions, he added. “The majority of the company’s production capabilities remain intact,” he said. “The front portion of the factory was inspected, granted a license ... and was up and running within two business days.”
