Steve Pham

I have always been a bit of a planner. Whether it’s planning a daily vacation itinerary or our special issues, I enjoy researching options. Having a strategy in place makes me feel prepared and later allows me to savor the fruits of my labor more sweetly.

So when it came time to formulate PSP Expo Planner content, I was both excited and nostalgic. Excited because working on Expo content meant it would be just a few short weeks before we were all brought together again in one place. The chance to reconnect with friends, make new contacts, learn cutting-edge techniques and shop for the latest products is always irresistible. This year, I also feel a twinge of nostalgia — how can it be that we were last in Orlando three whole years ago?

A lot can change in three years and, indeed, as you flip through the Expo Planner section in this issue, you’ll find not only the usual suggestions on what to do, see and eat during your time in Orlando, but what’s changed since our last visit. Amusement and waterpark enthusiasts in particular may want to take note of our attractions guide.

Another important change: Our partners at Informa, owners of the PSP Expo, have adjusted the time of the educational tracks to allow as many people as possible the opportunity to attend the sessions they want and need. This year, barring a few exceptions, seminars will run from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday-Friday. The exhibit hall will open at 10:30 a.m. every day, closing at 5 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday and 2:30 p.m. on Friday. We also have information on notable sessions, and a full schedule is available online.

However, there’s one special session that you won’t find on the schedule. As of presstime, Informa was in the process of adding a timely panel discussion on pool- and spa-related disaster safety, prevention and response. Details on this session will be posted on our dedicated Expo webpage: poolspanews.com/tag/psp-expo-2017.

Also, to keep you better connected to all things Expo-related during the show, such as information on that disaster panel I just mentioned, we are producing a special daily e-newsletter in partnership with Informa. Don’t miss out! Click here to subscribe.

And finally, if you’re a woman in the pool industry, I have good news. Last year, Pam Vinje, president of Small Screen Producer, started SWIMN, a networking event meant to support the growing group of women in this industry. It was an absolute blast, and I received many emails from women who wanted to know how they could attend in the future. I’m happy to say that Pam is doing it again. The second annual SWIMN event will be a breakfast and take place on Wednesday, Nov. 1 from 7:30-9:15 a.m. All women are invited to attend, although capacity is limited. You can find the details online at swimn.net.

See? This year’s Expo is going to be fantastic. See you at the show!
