The design/construction education group Genesis has assembled a new instruction leadership team and will roll out a new program specifically targeted to builders of vinyl-liner and fiberglass pools.
Several Genesis instructors, as well as its director and deputy director of education, left last year after the group became part of the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance. In response, co-founders Skip Phillips and Brian Van Bower returned.
In addition to Phillips and Van Bower, Genesis has retained landscape architect and long-time Genesis instructor Kate Wiseman to head design education; aquatics engineer Terry Brannon to oversee engineering instruction; and PSN Top 50 pool builder Bruce Dunn to direct the group’s business curricula.
“[Our] Genesis faculty advisors ... will work to ensure the Genesis curriculum continues to evolve to meet the needs of our changing industry, and Brian and I look forward to supporting that effort with PHTA for years to come,” Phillips said.
The group also has developed a two-day construction school for builders of fiberglass and vinyl-liner pools. Expected to debut at November’s Pool | Spa | Patio Expo, it will be overseen by Brannon. On the first day, vinyl-liner and fiberglass builders will learn about engineering and construction principles that apply to both formats. On the second day, the school will split into two groups — one fiberglass installers, the other vinyl — to learn about applying those principles to their particular format.
Genesis will be offering a certification for those who complete the school. More details on the certification are to come.
After it establishes the construction school, Genesis plans to introduce a design program that it has developed and previously presented in German.
“What we want to drive home is that there’s nothing wrong with applying the same principles and theories that have become so popular on the concrete side to those vessels that are made of other materials,” Phillips said.
