This galvanic corrosion
chart compares a variety of metals in electrochemical terms. Metals
toward the least noble (anodic) end of the chart will corrode more
rapidly in water than metals toward the most noble (cathodic)
end.
Making Sparks
As salt water (brine)
passes into an ECG, chlorine gas is produced around the anode,
while hydrogen gas is produced near the cathode. Some ECGs may
contain several layers of cells, alternating between anodes and
cathodes.
