NSPI Region 3 Halts Affiliation Push

National Spa & Pool Institute Region 3 will not create its own affiliated organization any time soon. While the national NSPI board appeared receptive to the request, its Chapter 11 filing soured plans.

“It’s an issue no one has control over,” said Jaqui Osborn, Region 3 president. “Legally, we cannot enter into a new agreement with NSPI because of their Chapter 11 status.” Osborn said all affiliation plans are on hold until the national organization is out from under the bankruptcy court. Region 3 members initially proposed an affiliation agreement because they wanted more autonomy to recruit members and develop their own programs.

NSPI Explores Offering Arbitration Between Builders, Homeowners

At the direction of its Builders Council, the National Spa & Pool Institute will explore establishing a national program to arbitrate disputes between builders and homeowners. NSPI staff will report its findings to the council at its March 19 meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Dimension One Spas Celebrates a Milestone

Dimension One Spas, a San Diego manufacturer of hot tubs, celebrated its 25th anniversary Oct. 24-28 by hosting an international dealer conference in La Jolla, Calif. Nearly 200 dealers attended. Presentations were given on showroom design and how to avoid common mistakes made by managers.

Aquascape Designs Announces Seminar Tour

Advantis Technologies Receives Environmental Award
Advantis Technologies, a pool and spa chemical manufacturer in Alpharetta, Ga., was recently recognized by Georgia’s state chapter of the Air and Waste Management Association.

The company earned the A&WMA award by reformulating products to help eliminate hazardous chemicals, arranging with suppliers to buy back residue not used and by treating some products on site until they are pH neutral.

NESPA Holds First Congress of Committees Meeting
The Northeast Spa & Pool Association held the first meeting of its Congress of Committees Oct. 20-21. The 20-plus committees were consolidated into four “super” committees, which developed ideas for NESPA to implement in 2003 with Board approval, among other things. Ideas include a mentoring program, a five-year strategic plan, and a marketing program for certifications.

Finnleo Dealers Win Trip to Finland
Sixteen dealers with Finnleo Sauna & Steam, a manufacturer of saunas and steam rooms based in Cokato, Minn., won a trip to Finland by meeting sales incentives set by the company.

The group visited Finnleo’s sauna heater factory and learned about the Finnish timber industry. The dealers also participated in a traditional Finnish sauna and swim in the Gulf of Finland.
